Michael is a proud part of the OzLabs Canberra crew where he works on IBM POWER processors. He's spent the last decade in the trenches doing bringup and enablement of new chips and is the worldwide development lead for Linux on POWER9. He helped port micropython and zephyr to the initial microwatt implementation.

Abstract

At the OpenPOWER summit USA in August 2019, IBM opened up the POWER ISA making it available to be implemented royalty free. IBM also presented microwatt, a reference implementation of the POWER ISA. This talk will be a walk through the POWER OpenISA and what microwatt is. It will also give some of the future directions we'd love to see the project taken.
