Getting to and from Airport and City

Jump to: navigation, search

If you're not on the Gold Coast - you'll need to get to us from the airport (or the train station or bus depot if you're not flying in). So this page is specifically to help you with this sometimes somewhat daunting task and make it super simple!

There's also a more general Local Transport section on the main page for when you get here.

Also - it's always great to find some LCA friends at the airport (or even on your flight!) - so please check out the Arrivals and Departures page and add your details!

From Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta - airport code OOL) is a really great regional airport. It's a single terminal (the international section is just a glassed off section in the main terminal) and is very easy to get in and out of. It sits at the most southerly end of the Gold Coast right on the state border where the Gold Coast and Pacific Highways join. Flights come in from most places and we have a few international flights mostly from NZ, Japan, Singapore and China. NZ is quite well connected so if you are coming in from US, AirNZ is a good option for pretty direct flights to Gold Coast via Auckland.

Great Airport map if you need it.

777 Bus is very regular and pretty quick. It's the only double decker bus on the Gold Coast, so easy to spot. Get a GO Card before you get on the bus - you can buy them from The HUB Convenience Store which is right next to the Baggage Carousel (to the right as you come out of the doors, has a light green band around the top of it) and is always open. Once you have your card and your bags. just walk out the doors and the bus stop is right there.

Airport Shuttle

Con-x-ion airport shuttles must be booked ahead however they will drop you off and pick you up for the door of your hotel - convenient if you have luggage and don't know your way around the area. Pretty reasonable prices.

SkyBusalso run a service which will stop at most hotels. Details and prices on the website.

Car Hire

If you need to hire a car, there are plenty of options at Gold Coast Airport. If you want to save some cash though the suggestion would be to pick one of the car hire companies outside of the airport zone. There are also plenty of budget options in the backpacker areas like Surfers.

Car Pickup

If a friend is picking you up - the pickup is right there as you exit the terminal if you go straight out. If you picked up baggage it's more to the left.

There are always taxis about (thank Uber!), the rank is to the right as you leave the terminal building right near the bus stops. Taxis on the Gold Coast are pretty good, clean (and often Hybrid) and prices reasonable (and fixed price from the airport).

Uber have a special pickup area which is to the far left of the terminal as you exit (nearer to departures). Wait times are very short.

From Brisbane Airport

Brisbane Airport is well connected to the Gold Coast by Train or the highway (Gateway motorway -> Pacific Highway). If you come in from Brisbane you have 3 good options

Air Train from Brisbane International or Domestic Airport.

Buy a GO card from the ticket office at the train station and jump on the train south (there is only 1 line) and it will take you all the way to the Gold Coast.

Now you have 2 options:

  1. Get off at Helensvale Station and transfer to the G:Link light rail. It's a very short walk across to the light rail line and there are lifts so is easily accessible. If you have a wheelchair I would recommend this option.
  2. Take the Heavy Rail to Nerang and jump on the 745 Bus to Broadbeach. Quicker than the tram but not quite as cool!

Airport Shuttle

Con-x-ion airport shuttles must be booked ahead however they will drop you off and pick you up for the door of your hotel - convenient if you have luggage and don't know your way around the area. Pretty reasonable prices.

Plenty of car hire options at Brisbane Airport.

It's a super easy drive to the Gold Coast. Just jump on the Gateway Motorway south, which joins to the Pacific Highway. Everything is always signposted Gold Coast. Remember the speed limit is mostly 100kph in Queensland on the Motorways (with some occasional 110 areas). Roadworks speed limits are definitely enforced and night works are pretty common.

Take exit 73 (Nielsens Road) and follow signs to Broadbeach. If you miss the turn, that's fine, the next exit (Nerang Broadbeach Rd) is almost as good.

If it's an emergency and you are late - you can certainly get an Uber all the way to the Gold Coast - expect to pay over $100 though (more for a Taxi).

From Brisbane City/Roma St Train Station

If you are in Brisbane City or coming into Brisbane via Train (long distance trains all come into Roma St) then the route is very similar to Brisbane Airport. Gold Coast trains leave very regularly from Central and Roma St and these days are very reliable.

From Northern NSW

If you are coming up from Byron or anywhere else down south by road there is a good Greyhound service which terminate at the Gold Coast Transit Centre in Surfers Paradise. From there it's a short tram ride to Broadbeach or wherever else you are staying
